• How Grammie Got Her Groove Back

We officially have one more family member in the house. Our daughter had her beautiful baby girl on October 28th. Needless to say, we have been in a time loop ever since. We are all extremely sleep deprived, but madly in love with sweet little Penelope. Spending time in the kitchen has definitely taken a back seat to helping with the baby. Thankfully, we have been blessed with meal deliveries from church friends and family. That has been amazing. As we have been slowly starting to get a routine, I have been trying to squeeze in some of our holiday favorites. I made some Slow Cooker Applesauce, and a batch…

  • Upside Down Cake for Upside Down Times

We are getting used to school at home, though it does feel a little like we have fallen through the looking glass. Everyone is up early in the morning, rushing to get to school – at their desks 2 feet from their beds. A few hours later, they come tumbling down the stairs to scavenge in the kitchen for lunch. Then they run back up to finish out the day, leaving a wave of kitchen destruction in their wake. I know this is the same story for most homes right now – upside down times, indeed. So, while feeling very upside down, I thought I would try my hand at…

  • Keeping Busy

Like most of the world right now, we are officially under a Stay-At-Home order, meaning we are not supposed to be out in the world for anything other than absolutely necessary. This lock down and the tension surrounding it has effected all of us differently. My youngest daughter, Allison, is used to going to swim team 3 times a week. This is her happy place as well as her physical outlet. She has been very upset to give that up. However, in the last two weeks, she has poured all of that pent up energy into taking over the kitchen. She has been making breakfast, lunch and dinner for the…

  • Apple Cider Bundt Cake

For some reason, probably Starbucks-driven, pumpkin spice is THE flavor for fall. But another flavor that makes its appearance this time of year is by far more delicious to me and that is apple cider. I LOVE apple cider. The smell and flavor evoke hay rides and bonfires. Apple cider also carries over nicely from Halloween fun to Thanksgiving festivities. I love apple cider doughnuts, muffins and cakes, so I thought I would play around with an easy apple cider Bundt cake recipe – something you can easily throw together but still looks impressive for holiday get-togethers. There are recipes out there for completely homemade, totally apply cakes, but I…

  • Best Ever Chocolate Cake

Every family has favorite recipes, food you want to eat over and over again. This chocolate cake is one of our family favorites. This simple, delicious cake has become our go-to for family birthdays and gatherings. In fact, my youngest daughter’s first word was “cake”, and it was THIS cake. I found the original recipe while at the gym. Yes, I see the irony. I was perusing an old copy of Paula Deen’s magazine in the waiting area and found this recipe in the reader’s contribution section. I am not even sure of the original submitter’s name anymore. Nonetheless, I thank them immensely for bringing this cake into our lives.…
