• Never Too Many Cookies

Freshly baked cookies are one of the most comforting treats around. I have tried many different cookie recipes over the years and cannot recall being disappointed by a single one. We do have favorites, but I always like to try new types of cookies, especially cookies that get a lot of press. One such famous cookie recipe is Former First Lady Laura Bush’s Cowboy Cookies. These cookies were originally made famous when the magazine Family Circle pitted Laura Bush’s cookie recipe against Tipper Gore’s ginger snaps. Laura Bush’s cookies won, as did her husband’s bid for office. That was obviously a long time ago, but the recipe still gets occasional…

  • The Pursuit of Perfection

When it comes to homemade chocolate chip cookies, I believe there are 2 kinds of people. The first kind has a secret family recipe they use every single time. The second kind of person is like me, always in pursuit of THE perfect recipe. Siri Daly, Today Show contributor and wife of Carson Daly, is also this kind of person. In her cookbook, “Siriously Delicious”, she shares that she has tried many recipes but has come up with an “ideal” cookie. Hers are chewy in the middle and crispy on the edges. They are also the perfect combination of bittersweet chocolate and salt! I decided to try out Siri’s Perfect…

  • Freezing Cookies

Back when my girls were in elementary school, the school used to run a fundraiser with Otis Spunkmeyer cookies. They came frozen, ready to bake whenever you wished. I thought it was genius and filled my freezer with them for the holidays. But they switched to other fundraisers and I have missed them. Recently, it came to my attention that I could be doing this myself with my own cookie dough. Talk about a light bulb moment. You may already be doing this. If so, you are brilliant. If you are slow to the party, like me, it could be a game-changer for you this coming holiday season. There are…

  • Fall Treats

September is finally here, which means back-to-school for many, the return of pumpkin spice everything, and the onset of all things cozy. Alas, the reality is that here in the South, we are in the mood for Fall long before the weather catches up to us. While we may want to pull out the sweaters and boots, it’s far too hot for that. We may want soups and chilis, but it’s not really appropriate on 80 degree nights. But there are a few delights we can indulge in without having a heat stroke. One of those treats is Ginger Snaps. Not everyone may think of them as a Fall treat,…

  • The Perfect Cookie

There is really nothing better than a freshly baked cookie. It’s a a sugary, comforting handful of love. I really haven’t met a cookie I didn’t like, but I think my favorite is the Monster Cookie. Years ago, I worked in downtown Minneapolis and one of my jobs was to order in lunch for everyone who wanted it. My favorite place to order from was Key’s Cafe. They served enormous omelettes, salads and sandwiches. They also served gigantic cookies the size of dinner plates. I think this was my first introduction to Monster Cookies. A Monster Cookie is an oatmeal, peanut butter cookie with chocolate chips and M&Ms. The origin…
