• Rolling with It

I had a different plan for the blog this week. But as we muddle through this strange time, I am learning to embrace each moment and let go of the things that really don’t matter. Just this morning, my dad and I donned face masks and gloves and braved a trip through BJ’s for paper goods and a few other essentials. Our face masks were from a protective set I bought at Home Depot a few years ago and never used. They were closer to the N95 type than a fabric mask and I must say the experience made me greatly appreciate the healthcare workers that have to wear them…

  • Jean’s Lemon Whippersnappers

When my oldest daughter, Katie, was in preschool, many moons ago, I used to take her to a Mom’s Morning Out gymnastics program. While there, we met Jean and her daughter, Laura, and became fast friends. We got together from time to time outside of gymnastics and one Christmas, Jean hosted a cookie exchange. I don’t remember what I brought, but I do remember Jean’s Lemon Whippersnappers and they quickly became a family favorite at Christmas time. • Limoncello

Over the years, my husband and I have visited a few wineries, breweries and some distilleries and I find myself fascinated by the science that goes into creating the perfect tasting wine, bourbon or liqueur. Weather, water sources and age can vastly change the end result. It is as much art as it is science. Once you have seen behind the curtain, so to speak, you begin to appreciate the process and effort that goes into crafting these drinks. You definitely understand that they are created for sipping and savoring the experience, and not meant for mindless imbibing. Recently, there has been a boom in home brewing. While I am…

  • Breakfast for Lunch & Dinner

I love breakfast. Eggs and bacon, crispy hashbrowns, omelettes, nice fluffy pancakes and waffles. If I am at a restaurant that serves lunch or breakfast food, I am always going to go for breakfast. While I love getting breakfast when eating out, we also have a tradition of a nice homemade breakfast on Saturday mornings. Of course, some Saturdays are too busy for that and all the clean up that comes after breakfast. But sometimes breakfast makes a great dinner, as it can be thrown together with little planning. You can even make your breakfast, lunch or dinner extra fancy with a few special ingredients. While dining out for lunch…

  • Making Memories & Lemon Bars

As Christmas Day inches closer and closer, it’s easy to get a little stressed out – trying not to forget gifts for neighbors and friends, making sure all the cards get in the mail, wrapping gifts like a ninja while the kids are in bed, or tracking down those gifts you hid so well earlier in the season that you can’t find them again. But what really matters at Christmas is the time we spend with loved ones, sharing traditions and making memories. When all the hustle and bustle is done, what you will remember are the meals eaten together and the laughter and the love we share with those…
